Octavian Paler pune patima si iscusinta in lecturile lui subiective, mereu intr-un stil razboinic, al deciziei si al ultimatumului, eliminand spatiile de respiratie calma, de rasfat si ironie. Eseistul are la indemana citatul trebuitor si, cand crezi ca demonstratia s-a terminat, arunca in pagina o nuanta noua a ideii, tot grava, tot profetica. Radicalismului moral ii corespunde, astfel, un radicalism al stilului de a specula in sfera ideilor morale. (Eugen Simion)


Octavian Paler puts passion and expertise into his subjective readings, always in a bellicose style involving decisions and ultimatums, discarding intervals of respite, over-indulgence and irony. The essayist has the appropriate quotation at hand and, when the demonstration seems to be over, he jots down a newfound nuance of the idea, as grim and prophetic as the previous ones. To the moral radicalism thus corresponds a radicalism of the style that speculates in the sphere of moral ideas. (Eugen Simion)
